NJ DEP Fish & Wildlife Shell Recycling Program

Published Wednesday, July 30, 2025
Since 2019, New Jersey Fish & Wildlife’s Marine Resources Administration has been working to enhance oyster habitat with the Shell Recycling Program. From late June to mid-July, staff planted nearly 700 tons of shell onto the Mullica River oyster reefs, marking the largest planting on these reefs to date.

The program now services Atlantic and Cape May Counties through 29 restaurant partners and two public shell drop-off locations!
