CAPE MAY HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION – MEETING TO BE HELD TO DISCUSS AMENDING THE LOCAL HISTORIC DISTRICT MAP

Published Tuesday, June 3, 2025

CITY OF CAPE MAY, June 3, 2025 - The City of Cape May Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) is recommending an amendment to the local historic district map. The proposed change aims to create a more consistent streetscape across the City and amend district lines so that blocks that are predominantly made up of historic properties are not left with properties that are subject to different standards. The current district boundaries result in noticeable inconsistencies in the streetscape’s appearance. This change aims to fix that issue.

A Special Meeting will be held on June 9, 2025, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the City Hall Auditorium to present and discuss this proposed amendment to the Cape May Local Historic District (LHD) map. The purpose of this informative meeting is to present and discuss the proposed adjustments to the LHD map through a collaborative and transparent process with all stakeholders and affected parties. The primary focus of this meeting will be clarifying the reasons behind these proposed changes and their impacts, along with a forum for answering associated questions from attendees.

The HPC anticipates taking formal action at this meeting to recommend the map amendment, which will then be sent for review by the Planning Board and then to City Council for potential adoption by Ordinance. This HPC meeting is open to the public and there will be an opportunity for public comment.
