NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Atlantic/Cape May offers a monthly peer-led Family Support Group for adults (18+) who have a loved one with a mental health condition. The support group is free and meets on the fourth Thursday of the month in the Cape May Court House public library at 30 Mechanic Street from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
The Family Support Group provides participants with an opportunity share their stories with others who also have a loved one living with a mental illness. Participants can gain insight from the challenges and successes of others facing similar experiences in an empathetic and supportive environment, and learn about available resources.
NAMI Atlantic/Cape May also offers the Family-to-Family program, which consists of eight classes that cover every aspect of mental illness and are designed to improve the coping and problem-solving abilities of the people closest to a person with a mental health condition.
Later this year, NAMI Atlantic/Cape May plans to offer the peer-led Connection support group for individuals living with a mental illness in Cape May County, location TBD. The Family and Connection Support Groups are also offered on the second Monday of the month in Somers Point.
