The Cape May County Chamber of Commerce proudly acknowledges one of our esteemed members, Mark Kulkowicz, of Cricket Club and Mad Batter Restaurants in Cape May, who recently attended the 80th Anniversary of D-Day in Normandy, France. Kulkowicz's participation in this historic event highlights their commitment to honoring the bravery and sacrifices of those who fought during World War II.
The 80th anniversary of D-Day is particularly important to the family of Cape May’s Carroll Villa, Mad Batter, and Cricket Club. Their founder and patriarch, Harry Kulkowitz was a member of the forces that landed on Utah Beach on June 6, 1944.
The Longest Yarn Background:
Many have said that the World War II veterans were the “Greatest Generation.” In honor of their service, The Longest Yarn, an 80-meter (265) three-dimensional wool tapestry, knitted and crocheted by thousands of volunteers worldwide including residents of Cape May County, tells the momentous story of D-Day from the build-up and launch in England through the Normandy invasion. The Longest Yarn will be unveiled at Notre Dame Church in Carentan on May 28, 2024, and will remain there until September, then tour Europe throughout the winter and be on display at the Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum from April to September, 2025.
Cape May County artists have joined their international partners in creating multitudes of poppies in red, yellow, and purple for cascades which will adorn buildings in Caretan and Sainte Mere Eglise. The tapestry will be unveiled at Notre Dame Church in Caretan, France on May 28, 2024 and will remain on display until September. The tapestry will tour throught Europe and will be on display here in Cape May County from April to September 2025, at the Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum.
