CREST HAVEN - The Cape May County Board of Commissioners broke ground on Phase 1 of the Enhanced Beautification Project at the Cape May County Gerald M. Thornton Veterans Cemetery in Crest Haven on March 15. Since 1980, this sacred ground has honored Cape May County Veterans and their spouses. There will be upgrades to the entryway, landscaping, and accessibility to the cemetery.
Project details include:
- $1,680,000 Phase 1 Project Cost
- 13,030 square yards of interior roadway asphalt
- 3100 square yards of topsoil and seeding
- 390 tons of base and surface course asphalt paving
- 3,350 square yards pf sodding
- 22,000 brick pavers
- 1250 linear feet of Belgium block curbing
- 20 square yards of concrete sidewalk
- 7 new flag poles
- 36 new light fixtures
- 24 new shade, ornamental and evergreen trees
- Over 1000 new plants
- Ceremony/reflection plaza w/ 6 benches for seating
