Cape May County Chamber of Commerce Chairman Doug Burke announced via an email to the Chamber Membership that a long-awaited building renovation project approved by the Chamber Board of Directors in 2019 has begun and is expected to be finalized by September.
The Cape May County Chamber, located at 13 Crest Haven Road, has operated from the same space since relocating a house purchased in Avalon in the late 1960s and moving it to its current location, retrofitting it into office space and opening in 1971. Over the years, a few cosmetic changes have been made but “major changes were needed to meet the needs of today’s fast-paced business world and we’re very excited that this work has finally begun’, stated Burke.
“The bulk of the project will be inside the building featuring a re-designed first floor that maximizes the square footage, enhancing that space with digital displays for tourism promotion and adding conference rooms for both Chamber meetings and member use.”
“Delays caused by COVID-19 and the competitive construction market led to the decision to move forward with the project now, even though we lose the use of the building this summer”, According to Vicki Clark, Chamber President, “We successfully pivoted to virtual programming when COVID forced us to close last March and now that we can resume in-person meetings, we know that our Chamber Team can continue to provide all the programs and services our membership and business community relies on while we are under construction.
