Governor elect Philip Murphy and his wife Tammy and their four children will visit the “Vietnam Memorial Wall” in Wildwood at 4500 Ocean Avenue, across from the Wildwoods Convention Center. The visit will take place on Sunday January 14th. The Governor elect and his wife have chosen this location to kick off his inauguration week. On Tuesday January 16th Philip Murphy will be sworn in as Governor in Trenton. This will be the second visit to the Wall by the Ambassador Murphy, the first being in the early spring prior to announcing his candidacy. The remembrance wreath laying ceremony is being sponsored by Chapter 955, Vietnam Veterans of America, President Bill Davenport, American Legion Post 184, Commander Harry Weimar, VFW Post 5941, Commander Joe Orlando, who are all headquartered on the island along with the City of Wildwood.
Mayor Ernie Troiano stated that it is an honor to have the governor elect and his family pay their respects and remember all those who have given their lives to defend this country. Wildwood has numerous monuments remembering our veterans and various wars. Joe Griffies hosts a weekly radio show on WIBG 1020 AM “Welcome Home Veterans” out of Ocean City weekly on Saturday afternoons. Joe was instrumental in encouraging Phil to more fully recognize veterans state wide. Bill Davenport, President of Chapter 955, Vietnam Veterans first invited Phil to the wall last year and he immeadealdly accepted.
The remembrance and kick off to inauguration week will be held on Sunday January 14th from 9 am to 11 am. Phil, his wife Tammy and their four children will participate in placing wreaths. Speeches will be short and the focus will be on veterans. Everyone is welcome. The Wall is located at 4500 Ocean Ave, at the corner of Ocean and Burk Avenues, Wildwood.
