| DUBBED THE ”sea and sand family vacationland,” the clean, white sandy beaches and peaceful meadows of Sea Isle City have been attracting family vacationers for generations. Recreational activities, strolls along the promenade and free summer concerts under the stars make the resort a perfect vacation choice. Throughout the summer, guided beach walks for children and adults help vacationers learn about the dunes, endangered Diamond Back terrapins, shore birds and the tides. The “shell and tell” program includes a discussion of indigenous shells and other beach inhabitants with a chance to find beach treasures of your own. Sea Isle adopted Sara the Turtle as its mascot and hosts a festival each summer to help increase awareness about the terrapins. There’s also the Skimmer Weekend and the Fall Festival to enjoy. In February, Sea Isle’s famous Polar Bear Plunge entices thousands of visitors to the resort, some brave enough to jump in the ocean. The city has designated beaches in the resort for specific water and sand sports in an effort to protect the sunbathers and strollers. Beaches north of 20th street allow surfing and volleyball enthusiasts to enjoy their favorite pastime. Vacationers who are steady with a sail can opt to boat off the beachfront simply by purchasing a license from the municipal clerk. Party boats offer a half day, full day or night fishing excursion or the catch of the day could be at one of the city’s finest seafood restaurants located in the marina area and around town. The city’s streets are lined with an array of restaurants, shops and night spots.
